Angelo Bertelli Heisman Notre Dame Signed 3x5 PSA/DNA Angelo Bortolo Bertelli (June 18, 1921 - June 26, 1999) was an American football quarterback. He played six games for Notre Dame in 1943 before leaving to join the United States Marine Corps. He was awarded the Heisman Trophy for that season. He was nicknamed the "Springfield Rifle" because he hailed from West Springfield, Massachusetts, and he was one of the early true forward passers in college football. Angelo played for the Los Angeles Dons and Chicago Rockets of the All-America Football Conference after his service in the military. He owned a series of liquor stores in Clifton, New Jersey and in West Springfield. Angelo was the color analyst for the Princeton University football games broadcast on radio station WVNJ, 620 AM and 100.3 FM in the 1950s and 60's. He died in 1999 and was buried in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair.[1] Bertelli is the father of Robert Bertelli, better known as Bob Bert, a musician who played in Sonic Youth and other bands.
