Sam Houston Hand Signed 1860 Treasury Warrant PSA/DNA Size: 4" x 8" This is an authentic Treasury Warrant (an I.O.U.) that was issued in 1860 and was made to "WJ Coge per Jo. Walker's Attorney, $30.50 out of any money appropriated by an act of February 3rd, 1860". This document was issued to Josiah Walker "for the protection of the frontier in Captain Tumlinson's Company". Hand signed by Comptroller Clement R. Johns and Treasurer C.N. Randolph on July 19th, 1860 in Austin. On the back: It is hand signed by Josiah Walker, Clement Johns, and Governor Sam Houston. It is not clear which Captain Tumlinson, of the Texas Rangers, Mr. Walker served under. Joe or Peter? It is also not known if Mr. Walker was ever paid as Texas seceded from the union a couple of years later and funds to fulfill this treasury warrant was to be paid by the U.S. Government. The ink is dark and bold, no fading, no deterioration from the iron content. The paper is fully intact, no major rips or tears.
